Acoustic performance and interior design have not always made easy partners. For much of commercial fit out history, acoustic performance often outweighed aesthetics—foam wedges, fibreglass batts behind fabric frames, and mineral fibre tiles in utilitarian grids. The idea that a product could absorb sound well and look like it belonged in a considered interior was, for a long time, an aspiration rather than a reality.
Autex Acoustics has spent decades closing that gap. Founded in New Zealand and now a consistent presence across Australia’s commercial interiors market, the brand has built one of the most complete decorative acoustic portfolios available. Its products span wall panels, ceiling tiles, suspended baffles, sculptural elements, and tackable surfaces. What connects them is a shared material platform: recycled polyester fibre, manufactured with 60–80% recycled PET content, that performs acoustically while offering a finish quality suited to everything from school classrooms to premium hospitality venues.
Autex has also committed to full carbon neutrality across all products and global operations, a position it reached in 2022 after years of systematic emissions accounting and reduction work. For projects where embodied carbon matters (and increasingly, it does) Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs), a Declare Label, and Global GreenTag certification are all available. Products are manufactured in Australia and meet Green Star and WELL Building Standard requirements where applicable.
Ceilings by Design is trusted by architects, interior designers, and acoustic consultants to supply the full Autex range projects across Australia for years. We work with project teams from early design stages through to deliver, helping narrow down product selection, advise on acoustic performance, source samples, and confirm lead times. If you want a supplier who can sit alongside your design process rather than just fulfil an order at the end of it, that is what we are here for.
The Autex Acoustics product families
Quietspace
Quietspace Panel is Autex’s flagship high-performance acoustic panel and the go-to specification for projects where maximum absorption is the priority. Made from 100% polyester fibre with a hard compressed face and cushioned backing, it absorbs a minimum of 85% of sound energy across its rated range, with NRC values from 0.85 to 1.00.
Panels are available in 1200mm × 2400mm and 1200mm × 2700mm standard formats, with custom sizes available up to 3600mm. Thickness options are 25mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm, a range that allows specifiers to match performance precisely to the acoustic requirements of the space rather than accepting a fixed profile. The product installs via direct fix and suits both wall and ceiling applications. Standard colours are Nude Black, Nude White, and Nude Grey; all three can be overlaid with Vertiface to introduce colour without compromising the panel’s absorptive face. Custom prints, patterned overlays, and First Nations artist editions are also available for feature applications.
Quietspace Panel is appropriate for open-plan offices, theatres, meeting rooms, and anywhere that broadband absorption at the wall or ceiling is the functional brief.
Cube
Cube is a lighter-weight, semi-rigid panel pressed from compressed polyester felt. It is the most versatile product in the Autex range, functioning as wall panel, ceiling panel, baffle substrate, and design medium in its own right. At 12mm and 24mm thicknesses, NRC ranges from 0.45 to 0.80. Panels come in 1220mm × 2440mm and 1220mm × 2740mm, with custom lengths to 3600mm.
The distinguishing quality of Cube is its design flexibility. The solid colour finish and clean edges require no capping or edging. It can be CNC-cut into custom shapes, layered in relief configurations, printed with Surface Finishes or custom imagery, used as a direct-fixed wall panel, or shaped into baffles and ceiling elements. The colour palette is broad with over 20 standard Cube colours plus the full Surface Finishes (stone, texture, pattern), and two print families in collaboration with Australian artists.
Cube is well suited to meeting rooms, commercial offices, education, hospitality, retail, and any project where acoustic performance needs to double as an architectural element.
Frontier
Frontier is an innovative acoustic baffle system designed for ceiling and wall applications in open-plan workspaces, retail, education, and hospitality. Made from 100% recycled PET with a minimum 80% recycled content, it is available as fins or rafts in 2400mm lengths.
Fins come in 12mm and 24mm thicknesses. Rafts are 70mm deep. NRC performance ranges from 0.70 to 1.00 for fins and 0.75 to 0.95 for rafts, depending on style and spacing configuration. Fin styles are available at three depth-and-spacing combinations: 150mm/150mm (Drape, Glide, Wave, Ripple, Tundra), 150mm/300mm (Wave, Axis, Tundra), and300mm/300mm (Dune, Sierra, Talus, Tundra). Raft styles include Beam 100, Beam 250, Blade, and Trapezoid. Timber grain finishes are available alongside the full Cube colour palette, which broadens Frontier’s application in premium hospitality and corporate environments where a timber aesthetic is preferred.
Frontier’s modular design allows designers to mix and match colours and styles, create varied spatial configurations, and adjust acoustic output by changing spacing.
Groove and Groove Duet
Both products are router-cut acoustic panels made from the same 100% PET compressed polyester felt as Cube. Standard dimensions are 1200mm × 2400mm and 1200mm × 2700mm (with custom sizes to 3600mm), available in 12mm and 24mm thicknesses. NRC ranges from 0.45 to 0.80. Install is via direct fix or SpinFix.
Groove is the single-colour version. A single panel is cut with one of 12 angular, geometric designs, producing a tone-on-tone surface where shadows animate the cut lines. The result is textural depth without colour contrast, well suited to refined or neutral interiors where surface interest should not read as a feature element.
Groove Duet is the two-tone version. A contrasting base panel shows through the router-cut lines of the top layer, creating a higher-contrast, more visually assertive surface. The same 12 design profiles apply. With the ability to combine any two Cube colours, Groove Duet is the product of choice when the wall needs to make a deliberate design statement.
Both products suit commercial offices, corporate reception areas, healthcare lobbies, hospitality venues, and education settings.
Composition
Composition is Autex’s versatile acoustic wallcovering, available in both panel and roll formats. The range has been updated to offer two distinct finishes: Velour, the original Composition finish, with a soft, velvety texture suited to vertical drops and direct wall application, and Smooth (previously known as Symphony), which offers a sleek flat look as a high-performance alternative to paint or wallpaper.
Panels are 1220mm wide in 12mm and 18mm thicknesses, made from 100% PET including recycled fibre, and installed via direct fix. The velour finish is durable, flexible, and carries the practical properties specifiers have always valued from this product. The smooth finish adds a cleaner, more graphic option for environments where surface texture would read as too soft.
Composition suits offices, education, hospitality, healthcare, and any project where a continuous acoustic wallcovering is preferred over discrete panel elements.
Composition Peel ‘n’ Stick Tiles
Composition Peel ‘n’ Stick Tiles are self-adhering acoustic wall tiles in a 600mm × 600mm format, 10–12mm thick, with an NRC of 0.40. No adhesive, no installer, and no dry time are required, because the tiles carry their own backing and can be applied directly to a prepared wall surface.
The surface is hook-and-loop receptive and pinnable, which makes these tiles useful in classrooms and collaborative workspaces where the wall needs to do double duty as a display surface. Autex positions them as targeting speech frequencies, aligning with the thin profile and making them appropriate for improving speech intelligibility in smaller rooms where lower frequencies are less of a concern. Tiles can be mixed across the full colour range, allowing pattern and zone differentiation without custom fabrication.
Horizon
Horizon is a range of floating acoustic panels designed to be suspended from ceilings, where they create a cloud-like visual effect and deliver NRC performance of 0.80 with up to 3.4 metric sabins per panel. Panels are 24mm thick, made from 100% polyester fibre, and available in clean two-dimensional geometric forms. The adjustable suspension system allows hanging height to be set precisely, which matters acoustically: lower suspension targets higher frequencies, and raising panels can improve performance at mid to lower frequencies.
Horizon can also be wall-mounted without adhesives, giving specifiers flexibility in how the product is deployed across a project. It is available across the full Cube colour palette, including custom lengths and finishes. Applications include open-plan offices, hospitality, education, and any space where ceiling height needs to be preserved while acoustic treatment is introduced above the occupants.
Mirage
Mirage is an intricately textured acoustic panel range built on the Cube substrate, available in both 12mm and 24mm thicknesses with six surface design profiles that create a tactile, three-dimensional quality at the wall surface. Made with a minimum of 80% recycled PET and manufactured in Australia, it sits at the premium end of the Autex wall panel range in terms of visual sophistication.
The product is suited to hospitality, premium commercial, and retail interiors where the acoustic treatment needs to read as a designed surface rather than a functional addition. The full Cube colour palette applies.
Lanes
Lanes is a battened acoustic wall system made from 12mm Cube panels, cut and folded into linear sections that are 300mm wide and available in 2400mm and 2700mm lengths, with custom lengths available. Three profile styles create different folded geometries across the wall surface. NRC is 0.80 to 0.85. No adhesive is required for installation; the air gap behind each lane provides enhanced low-frequency absorption beyond what the panel surface alone would deliver.
The system is wall-only and creates a 3D interior façade that reads as architectural joinery from a distance. It suits premium commercial, hospitality, and education settings where an acoustic wall needs to contribute meaningfully to the interior composition.
Cascade
Cascade screens are suspended from the ceiling to create subtle acoustic dividers across open-plan spaces. Available in three styles (static, folding, and expanding), they separate zones while maintaining visual openness. Static screens deliver 1.7 metric sabins per unit; folding and expanding screens deliver 2.25. Panels are 1200mm × 2400mm at 12mm thickness, made from 100% PET; expanding screens double in coverage when fully extended.
Cascade suits open-plan offices, collaborative workspaces, and hospitality environments where flexible spatial definition is required without permanent partition walls. Fixing can be direct, suspended, or a combination of both.
Lattice
Lattice is a collection of suspended acoustic baffles in a gridded geometric configuration, designed to absorb echo and reverberation from ceiling space. Available in three standard designs, the product is 12mm thick, made from 100% PET, and installed by suspension from the ceiling structure.
The gridded arrangement means Lattice contributes to absorption across a well-distributed ceiling area, and suspension height can be adjusted to target different acoustic frequency ranges. It is a straightforward, effective ceiling solution that also carries strong visual presence. Available across the full Cube colour palette.
Vertiface
Vertiface is a durable fabric wallcovering made from 100% polyester fibre with a velour finish on one side and a flat pile on the other. The product is pinnable, hook-and-loop receptive, and self-healing, making it the standard specification for tackable surfaces in education, healthcare, and corporate environments.
Vertiface functions as a standalone wallcovering, an upholstery fabric for panel frames, and an overlay for Quietspace Panels where colour is needed over a high-performance absorptive substrate. Over 40 standard colours are available, including the full Autex coordinated palette, giving specifiers the flexibility to match Vertiface to surrounding Cube or Quietspace products without custom colour work.
Verve
Verve is Autex’s contoured acoustic panel range comprising of six profiles, each with a distinct sculptural texture that animates wall surfaces with light and shadow. Panels are 2680mm × 1170mm, available in 12mm and 21mm thicknesses (with 6mm and 15mm edges respectively), made from 100% PET with a minimum 80% recycled content, and manufactured in Australia.
The six profile shapes are each visually distinct, and together with the full Cube colour palette and selected Surface Finishes, give specifiers significant range. Verve is wall-only and suits premium commercial, hospitality, and retail environments where a sculptural wall presence is the brief.
Acoustic Timber
Acoustic Timber is a high-performance acoustic treatment that realistically imitates timber using hand-picked premium woodgrain prints applied to a 100% PET panel substrate with water-based, UV-cured ink. The range includes panels, baffles, and ceiling tiles. NRC ranges from 0.45 to 0.90 depending on format and configuration.
Available woodgrains include Birch, American Ash, Hoop Pine, Oak, Tasmanian Oak, Nordic Oak, Aged Oak, Blackbutt, Black Walnut, Yakisugi Black, Soft Walnut, Coastal Oak, Natural Oak, Civic Oak, Coffs Blackbutt, Prime Oak, and Boston Oak. The breadth of the timber range makes Acoustic Timber the realistic first choice when a timber ceiling or wall aesthetic is required but the weight, cost, or acoustic limitations of real timber make it impractical.
Accent Ceiling Tiles
Accent Ceiling Tiles are grid-compatible acoustic ceiling tiles with two functional faces: one smooth classic white, one vibrant colour. Tiles are NRC 0.85, made from 100% polyester fibre, and installed by dropping into standard suspended ceiling grid systems.
The two-sided format gives facility managers and specifiers flexibility: tiles can be installed colour-side up, white-side up, or mixed to create pattern without committing to a permanent installation. Tiles can also be paired with acoustic insulation above to push performance further. The full Cube colour palette applies.
Grid Ceiling Tiles
Grid Ceiling Tiles are a more architecturally considered acoustic ceiling tile product, offering seven adaptable design options. Made from 100% PET with a minimum 80% recycled content, NRC ranges from 0.10 to 0.85 depending on design. Tiles drop into standard ceiling grid systems and are easily retrofittable.
The range allows specifiers to create varied ceiling-scapes from bold feature zones to subtle textural shifts that go beyond what a plain tile can achieve. Designs can be configured around sprinkler systems. The full Cube colour palette applies.
3D Acoustic Wall Tiles
3D Acoustic Wall Tiles are sculptural moulded tiles designed for interior wall application. Eight design profiles are available, each pressed into abstract three-dimensional forms that create air gaps behind the tile surface, improving acoustic performance in the mid to high-frequency range. NRC is 0.65 to 0.90. Made from 100% PET, tiles install via direct fix using included mounting clips.
Tiles are lightweight, customisable, and available across the Autex colour range. The hollow construction means performance improves as installation density increases. These tiles suit hospitality, premium commercial, and feature wall applications where acoustic absorption and sculptural surface presence are both required.
3D Acoustic Ceiling Tiles
3D Acoustic Ceiling Tiles provide the same moulded, three-dimensional aesthetic as the wall tiles but are sized for 595mm × 595mm ceiling grid systems. Five design profiles are available. NRC is 0.65 to 0.90. Made from 100% PET, they install by suspension into standard grid systems and can be scattered across a ceiling to add depth and texture or deployed at full coverage for higher acoustic output.
Like the wall tile range, the hollow construction creates an air gap that boosts performance. Tiles are lightweight, easily retrofittable, and available across the Autex colour range. They are well suited to offices, hospitality, and education settings where standard ceiling tiles need to be replaced without a full ceiling replacement.

Matching Autex Acoustics products to project types
Commercial Offices and Open-Plan Workplaces
Open-plan offices need to manage reverberation, background chatter, and speech privacy across zones that are often open to each other. Quietspace Panel at the wall, combined with Frontier Acoustic Fins or Lattice baffles at the ceiling, is a proven combination for most commercial floor plates. Cascade screens work well for zone definition without permanent partitioning.
Groove and Groove Duet suit reception areas and collaboration zones where wall treatment needs to carry design weight. Composition Peel ‘n’ Stick Tiles are worth considering in breakout rooms and informal meeting spaces where ease of installation and pin functionality matter. Mirage and Verve are appropriate for feature wall applications in premium fit outs.
Education Facilities
Classrooms need to control reverberation and support speech intelligibility, while the surfaces also need to hold up to heavy use. Quietspace Panel on walls or ceiling is the high-performance option. Vertiface is the standard call for walls where pin functionality is required alongside acoustic treatment. Composition Peel ‘n’ Stick Tiles offer a lower-cost, flexible alternative where tiles may be moved or reconfigured over time.
Accent Ceiling Tiles and Grid Ceiling Tiles are practical retrofit options for existing grid systems where a full ceiling replacement is not on the table. Acoustic consultant sign-off on product configuration and coverage area is required to confirm NCC compliance.
Healthcare Spaces
Healthcare environments balance acoustic performance with infection control and cleanability. Quietspace Panel and Composition are appropriate for wall treatment in consulting rooms, corridors, and waiting areas. Products should be confirmed as meeting relevant infection control requirements for the specific application area before specification.
For ceiling applications where antimicrobial performance is a clinical requirement, we stock Armstrong BioGuard ceiling tiles alongside the Autex range. Vertiface may be appropriate in non-clinical areas where a tackable surface adds practical value.
Hospitality Venues
Restaurants, bars, and hotel public spaces typically struggle with reverberation from hard surfaces, high ceilings, and glazing. Frontier Acoustic Fins and Lattice baffles suit these environments because they can be introduced without modifying existing ceiling structures. Cascade screens offer zone separation with minimal visual impact.
Mirage, Verve, Groove Duet, and Lanes suit feature walls in premium hospitality environments where the acoustic treatment needs to pull design weight. Acoustic Timber is the right call wherever a timber ceiling or wall aesthetic is part of the brief.
Performing Arts and Multipurpose Spaces
Gymnasiums, school halls, and multipurpose venues present the most demanding conditions: large volumes, hard floors, minimal soft furnishings. Frontier Acoustic Fins or Lattice baffles at the ceiling, combined with Quietspace Panel at heavier thicknesses on available wall surfaces, is the appropriate combination for these spaces. Early acoustic consultant involvement is essential to model coverage requirements and confirm compliance with relevant performance standards.
Colour and customisation with Autex Australia
Autex’s colour palette spans more than 100 standard colours across coordinated collections, from neutrals and natural tones through to deeper finishes suited to feature applications. The palette is consistent across most product lines, which makes coordinated specification across wall and ceiling products straightforward within a single project.
Custom colours and prints are available through Autex on application, subject to minimum order quantities. Specifiers with specific brand colour requirements or bespoke palette needs should discuss lead times and minimums with Ceilings by Design early in the design process.
Panel products including Quietspace, Vibe, and Groove can be cut to custom dimensions on site or, in some cases, with factory preparation. CNC-cut custom shapes are achievable for feature applications; confirm feasibility and lead time with Ceilings by Design for project-specific requirements.
